Notice of Race

 

 

RULES

The regatta shall be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

 

ALTERATIONS OF RACING RULES

Racing rules 29, 30, & 32 will be changed so flags need not be displayed and notification may be made with a verbal hail from the race committee.

Racing rule 33 will be changed so the race committee may change a leg of the course before the leading boat has begun the leg without signaling.

Racing rule 44.1 will be changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced with the One-Turn Penalty.

 

ALTERATIONS OF CLASS RULES

The rules of the Ideal 18 class are altered so that membership in the class is not required.

 

ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

The regatta is open to boats of the Ideal 18 class with women competitors.  Competitors may enter by delivering to Ellen Bobka, Gillespie Regatta Chair, a completed registration/waiver with the $70 entry fee per boat payable to Norwalk Yacht Club by 1800, Thursday, July 30th, 2015.  Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the Organizing Authority.

 

The Norwalk Yacht Club Ideal 18 boats will be assigned at the sole discretion of the Organizing Authority with priority to Norwalk YC program members.  Moorings and/or dock space will be made available for visiting boats.

 

SCHEDULE

0900    Sign-in & continental breakfast

0930    Competitors’ Meeting

1000    Harbor Start with a warning gun approximately thirty minutes following the harbor start

A box lunch will be provided on the water.

1600    Refreshments and awards on the deck; deck party to follow

 

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Sailing Instructions will be available at sign-in.

 

RACING AREA

The racing area will be south of the Norwalk Yacht Club mooring field or south of Pine Point.

 

COURSES AND MARKS

Courses shall be windward - leeward - finish with the start/finish line located approximately 1/3 of the distance from the leeward mark to the windward mark.  The number of laps may vary (once or twice around).  The course will be designated orally.   Marks will be orange spheres.

 

PENALTY SYSTEM

Rule 44 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.

 

SCORING

The race committee will endeavor to run as many races as practical.  All scores will count; however, if 6 or more races are completed, each boat’s worst score will be excluded from her series score.  One race constitutes a series.

 

PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded to the skipper and crew for boats placing first, second, and third.

Norwalk Yacht Club’s perpetual Gillespie Trophy will be awarded to the best finish for a boat with a skipper and crew from the Norwalk Yacht Club Ideal 18 Program.

 

SKIPPER RESPONSIBILITY

The skipper of a boat is responsible for the insurance deductible in the amount of $250 per boat or $500 per incident.  Each competitor must report, upon returning, any damage or loss incurred.  Fault while racing is determined by The Racing Rules of Sailing.

 

DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
