"From the Helm"

-- June 2017 --

Fellow Members,

Spring has finally arrived!

The grass is green; the forsythia and magnolias have bloomed; little white mooring balls have appeared across our mooring field; and long lines of floats edge our waterfront. Summer can’t be far behind.

Our staff has worked hard to prepare the Club for the new season. A new float was built; our mooring field is laid out; our Ideal 18’s and many of our support boats are launched; our picnic tables have been varnished; and our grills have been plumbed.

Our Junior Sailing program has already hired six instructors and registered 54 Junior Sailors. Their boats will be in the water, and they will be off to regattas in no time.

Wes Oliver has worked tirelessly to get our Committee Boat, the Edgar Raymond, up to racing trim. And our Regatta Committee has put together a full schedule of races, for both our Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon series.

Our Adult Sailing Committee will once again conduct Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon racing in our Ideal 18’s. These boats are also available throughout the summer for member use for recreational sailing. An Ideal 18 membership makes these boats and our Clubhouse available to non-members who would like to sail but may not own a boat or want full membership at the moment.

Our Cruise Committee has planned several overnights and weekend rendezvous over the course of the summer. In addition they’ve blocked out the week of July 22nd to July 30th for our Annual Summer Cruise, this year out to Cuttyhunk. Please watch your email for further details on that, and feel free to let the Committee know if you’d like to participate or be a Port Captain.

Of course our Entertainment Committee has been hard at work planning several events over the summer. There will be our traditional Fourth of July and Labor Day parties, and a Commodore’s Bash. In addition, we hope to occasionally enhance Friday evenings with light fare and entertainment.

We have great plans for our 123’rd commissioned season, and I look forward to see you all down at the club.

Many thanks!

Bill
